Beer, beer and more beer

Our weekly food-news round-up

By CityBeat Staff
tomasolcafe Toma Sol Cafe in Mission Hills
Praise the beer-and-wine license gods. Mission Hills' Toma Sol Cafe last week started serving beer and wine to go along with their delicious paninis and soups. The beer menu includes selections from Ballast Point, Stone and Eel River and the wines are all from eco-friendly vineyards. If you prefer morning beverages, the coffee here is excellent.

Sea Rocket Bistro and LoveLikeBeer are joining forces again for a vegan beer-pairing dinner. Served from 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday, June 14, is seitan (a wheat gluten meat substitute) in a spicy kimchee barbecue sauce with green beans and local citrus on the side, paired with Green Flash's Hop Head Red. Proceeds from the $22 dish will benefit Seeds@City Urban Farm at San Diego City College.

Speaking of beer, on Friday, June 15, the Stone Company Store in South Park is celebrating one year in business with a neighborhood-wide beer-feet. Eleven restaurants, bars and liquor stores nearby will have special Stone beers on draft or available for purchase by the bottle. Get the full list here.

Another beer spot celebrating its first year is Little Italy's Bottlecraft. On Saturday, June 16, the bottle shop will release its  collaboration with Hess Brewing and Miho Gastrotruck will be selling food from 1 to 4 p.m. If you're a Bottlecraft fan, pick up a limited-edition T-shirt and goblet designed by Jolby & Friends.
