Let's go shopping!

Local shopping events to spend your hard-earned money

You know what feels really good? Extra cash in your wallet. It’s sits there, tingling, whispering sweet nothing’s in your ear. “Spend me. Turn me into a pair of new platforms. Wouldn’t a new pair of jeans be sooo nice?” Yes, extra cash. All those things sound absolutely lovely. I will spend you.

If you’re ready and able to do some damage to your debit card, here are a few shopping events happening in the next few days to help you get that cash spent.

Friday, June 8 through Sunday, June 10, Frock You holds one of its semi-regular "Frocking Sales." From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., stop by 4121 Park Blvd. in University Heights to check out a range of vintage items from all eras. Special guest vendor La Loupe Vintage will also be selling their goods.

On Saturday, June 9, more than 75 boutiques and shops around La Jolla Village will be participating in Haute La Jolla Nights. They’ll stay open late and offer killer deals on everything from clothes and accessories to home furnishings. Best of all, many of the participating locations will be offering complimentary appetizers and cocktails. Getting tipsy and buying shoes? Yes, sir! This event also features art exhibits and live music, in case you want to give your wallet a break. Haute La Jolla nights goes from 6 to 9 p.m.

Feel like jazzing up your garden with some cool pottery? Then head to the San Diego Potter’s Guild Pottery Sale on Saturday and Sunday, June 9-10. Local potters will be selling their creations including birdhouses, planters, lanterns and cool sculptures. An interesting pot is really the best way to showcase the plants you forget to water on a regular basis. The event is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

DuckyWaddles Emporium up in Encinitas (414 N. Coast Highway 101) is holding its Second Sunday Flea Market on June 10. The outdoor sale features tons of vintage items, art, local crafts, jewelry and other goods. It goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., so make a day of it. duckywaddles.com

Happening on the same day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. is The Really Really Free Market at Teralta Park (40th Street and Orange Avenue in City Heights). What’s cool about this shopping event is that everything's free—bring something useful you're looking to unload, too. If you’ve bought too much but are still hungry for more things you don’t really need, stop on by.

Another June 10 shopping event is A Trend Show, happening at Horton Plaza from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For a $5 entry fee, you can shop directly from designers and stylists, receive beauty treatments and a gift bag full of goodies and take part in a clothing swap. Bring any pieces of clothing or accessories that you feel like getting rid of and trade with someone else. A DJ will set the mood while a live fashion shoot goes down. It’s like a live episode of America’s Next Top Model, minus Tyra Banks’ going on and on about “smizing.”
