Digable dance

Digable photos
Homesteading—turning one's dwelling into more than just a place to eat, sleep and store stuff—is all the rage. Indeed, returning to a simpler time, when a home provided more than shelter, is an understandable push-back to an increasingly tech-oriented world. Three Story House, which opens Saturday, May 12, at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park, quietly acknowledges this with, as MOPA Executive Director Deborah Klochko puts it, a focus on "the domestic setting as a place of renewal and daily growth." The exhibition will also mark a new experiment for MOPA: Visitors will be able to browse and rate a selection of images from the museum's collection which will then be turned into the crowd-sourced exhibition, Soapbox! The Audience Speaks, opening this fall. ("House #1" by Han Nguyen shown here.)
Digable eats
The San Diego Council on Literacy hit on a challenge worthy of Top Chef with its annual Eat. Drink. Read. event, happening Wednesday, May 16, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the McMillan Event Center in Liberty Station. The fundraiser asks chefs from spots like Craft & Commerce, Urban Solace, Whisknladle, Red Door and Gabardine to come up with a small plate inspired by a classic book. Check out the full list of chefs and their selections here. Your $60 ticket gets you all you can eat, a chance to chat with the chefs about their picks, and beer and wine to enjoy with your food. Which book / food pairing most piques our interest? Charlotte's Web (selected by Sycuan Casino's Chef Paul Schwab). Let's just hope it doesn't involve pork.
