Digable drinks
The
holidays bring about a certain amount of cheer, perhaps partially
fueled by the fact that most of us drink and eat a little (or a lot)
more than we normally do. Beaumont's Eatery (5662
La Jolla Blvd., Bird Rock) gives revelers a good excuse to keep
celebrating with a special holiday-inspired cocktail menu that includes
drinks like The Grinch (rum, Midori, green tea, lemon, mint and a touch
of cream) and the Gingerbread Man (rye whiskey, gingerbread simple
syrup, citrus and Aztec bitters). And, of course, Beaumont's will
continue to serve all their regular craft cocktails including the $5
Bloody Mary (pictured left) offered up at their weekly Sunday Acoustic
Brunch. Visit Beaumont's website.
It’s
fortunate for New Year’s Eve hard-partiers that Jan. 1 falls on a
Sunday—because that means Sunday brunch. Nothing’s better for a hangover
than a large, savory breakfast, though since alcohol depletes your
glucose levels, ordering up something sweet has benefits, too. On Sunday, Jan. 1, Anthology—the
swank Little Italy jazz club at 1337 India St.—rolls out its new brunch
menu by chef Todd Allison (pictured). Items include a short stack of
banana-nut pancakes with candied walnuts and dark-rum butter, a fancy
twist on the fried egg sandwich (Serrano ham, Swiss cheese, arugula and
caramelized-onion aioli) and a Dungeness Crab Benedict. If you’re
needing some hair o’ the dog but could do without the guilt, try The
20/20: Clementine vodka, ginger liquor and fresh lime and carrot juice. See the new brunch menu.
Digable art
Got in-laws in town whom you're looking to entertain? If they're of the artsy sort, we highly recommend a trip to the San Diego Museum of Art. First up, Mexican Modern Painting, an exhibit of art
collector Andrés Blaisten's pretty awesome accumulation of 20th-century
Mexican art ("El Gato Negro" by Fernando Castillo is pictured left). On
display through Feb. 19, it's a fascinating and educational look at
what was going on in Mexico during one of the most interesting periods
for art creation worldwide. Also currently on display is Experiments in Abstraction,
a collection of works by Southern California abstract artists like Ed
Ruscha and Sam Francis that spans four decades. And don't miss A Harmony of Line,
an exhibition of avant-garde works by European artists like Marc
Chagall, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, all part of the early 20th
century "School of Paris" movement. To get more info about SDMA's
current exhibitions, click here.
Digable to-do

When
you’re a parent, getting drunk and sloppy on New Year’s Eve becomes
less of an option. Luckily, The New Children’s Museum (200 West Island
Ave., Downtown) is allowing moms and dads to bring the kids along to
celebrate 2012 with an all-day, family-friendly New Year’s Bash.
Toddlers can shake their diapered booties to musical performances by
tween popsters Pink Army, storytelling fun band Clint Perry & the
Boo Hoo Crew, Rhythm Child and others. There will also be arts
activities, a show by the San Diego Guild of Puppetry, and kids can run
wild in the museum’s current exhibition, Trash. Bonus: Because it’s from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, you can still get sloppy on New Year’s Eve. Get more info about the event.
