iPhones are ubiquitous and, therefore, accessories for the phone are a pretty easy gift idea for at least 78 percent of your friends and family. The following are my favorite accoutrements to be found online.
Holga cameras are everywhere. They turn ordinary light and action into pretty pictures from the past. Holga makes a Filter Kit for the iPhone that is also a case that looks vaguely like an old rotary phone. It comes with nine filters to dial in, plus a blank space. There are three split-image filters; a few brightly colored filters; and, maybe the best part, a macro lens for taking pictures close up. I got one for the husband and, fortunately for me, he doesn't read any of my columns so cat's not out of the bag—yet.
The Dot from Kogeto is a snap-on lens that allows the iPhone to take 360-degree panoramic videos. They call it a "video thingy," so, obviously, I like this company. They're about $79, but for someone who has an iPhone and loves taking videos with their phone, it's pretty damn keen.
Another great little gift for the photo-freak with an iPhone is the telephoto lens that Photojojo sells on its site. It provides an 8X telescopic power, twists into the black case it comes with and also has a collapsible little tripod in the package, too. The whole thing could fit in your pocket.
Maybe a case is the way to go. I've seen a few good ones—The EarCase is a fun visual pun. The case features an angled ear so that when you bring it to your own, others just see the fake ear. There are pierced ears, ears with headsets and plain old girl and boy ears. They're kind of hilarious.
Society 6 sells art for cheap and they also put all that art on iPhone cases. This is where you can find Threadless and Gawker artist cases and, honestly, there's something for everyone here. I'm partial to the Totoro one.
But maybe my favorite is the iPhone case Kit at AMH Design, a modern needlepoint company. There are three patterns to choose from in the kit—a Union Jack, a monogram and a stripe-y thing, plus you get instructions, the yarn, and plastic canvas forms. I just love presents that make you work.
