There's been little change in the number of hate crimes reported in San Diego County since 2008, according to numbers just released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

In 2008, cities and universities in San Diego County and the county itself reported 120 hate crimes. In 2010 that number increased to 122, with law-enforcement agencies serving Coronado, La Mesa, UC San Diego and other populations reporting hate crimes to the FBI, when they had not in 2008.

Within the city of San Diego, hate crimes dropped from 58 reported in 2008 to 49 in 2010. Twenty crimes based on sexual orientation were reported in the city, up three from the 17 reported in 2008. Race-based crime dropped from 22 cases in 2008 to just 12 in 2010.
