Digable music
Two weeks after successfully completing a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign
to record their debut CD, the 24-member choral group SACRA/PROFANA will
perform three works by contemporary composers at Founders Chapel on
the University of San Diego campus at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13.
Led by Krishan Oberoi, the group embarks on its third season with
interpretations of “Expecting the Main Things from You,” a 2005 work by
New York-based composer Nico Muhly. Muhly says on his blog
that three quarters of the singers will be singing a “stylized Morse
code” that was inspired by watching satellites pass over his native
Vermont. The performance will also include works by Estonian composer
Arvo Prt and minimalist innovator Steve Reich. $12. Click here for more info.
Digable shopping
Mostly
gone are the days of jog-a-thons and candy-bar sales to help schools
raise money, Increasingly cropping up in their place are more
community-centric events that draw in folks beyond the school's
ecosphere. On Sunday, Nov. 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
at Glashaus studios (1815 Main St. in Barrio Logan), the Museum School, a
public charter school, puts on the Local Color indie craft fair.
Vendors include Boy Girl Party, Colleen Townend, Tend, Penny Sparkle
Designs, Progress and Post Box Press (pictured here are plush pals from
Val's Art Studio). MIHO Gastrotruck will be on hand selling food, DJ
Claire will be spinning tunes and you can get your photo taken in Jen
Jansen's vintage photo booth. Admission is free and proceeds from sales
benefit the school. For more info, click here.
