Top news on the new-release front is that local Rob Crow (Pinback, Heavy Vegetable, Physics, Thingy, Optigonally Yours, and the podcast, Rob Crow's Incongruous Show) has a new solo CD out today titled He Thinks He's People. Also out: The Luz de Vida compilation, which benefits the victims of the Gabrielle Giffords shooting, and features music by Neko Case, Spoon, Robyn Hitchcock and Calexico as well as others. Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin has a new CD called Tape Club. And the biggest Smiths box set to date also comes out today (Christmas, anyone?) and features all eight albums remastered up the wazoo. I'm going with the Crow CD and I'm getting it at M-Theory. You?
In DVDs the big release is Kevin Smith's Red State, the documentary Page One: Inside The New York Times, and the Blue-Ray edition of the Goonies! (Christmas, anyone?) I'm feeling nostalgic and am gonna hit Completely Video up in Normal Heights.
In books, I find it hilarious—and not that comforting—that William Shatner's latest bio, Shatner Rules, comes out with an initial printing of 200,000, while Chuck Palahniuk's latest, Damned: A Novel, gets 150,000. Maybe we should just be happy he gets that many? Also out is the buzz-y Why Read Moby Dick? by Nathaniel Philbrick. (Christmas... nah.) But I am gonna go looking for Palahuniuk's at Bluestocking Books in Hillcrest.
