Mayoral debate, as illustrated by bingo cards

Here's a couple winning sheets from Politifest

By Dave Maass

On Saturday, several mayoral candidates squared off at Politifest, a new, hopefully annual, public event organized by voiceofsandiego.org. As we did with Mayor Jerry Sanders' State of the City address in January, we printed bingo cards as a way to make paying attention to soapboxing a little bit more fun.

We generated 75 different bingo cards based on a list of more than 130 words. It's hard to guess what people will say, but we scanned campaign sites and interviews looking for catchphrases and hot-button issues. In the end, about a half a dozen people won gift certificates to places like 25 Forty Bistro and Bakehouse and The Griffin

Here are two of the winning cards, to give you an idea of what issues the debate covered. The second card is actually a double bingo; the winner missed the word "homeless."
