Civic artistry

A new arts collaboration raises money for charities every Friday in September

When artists get together, good things can happen. Introducing a new Friday blog feature that quickly and efficiently introduces you to San Diego artist collectives (or simply groups of creative folks) who are doing rad and interesting things.

Here's the first in the series:

What? Troika for Charity

So, what is that, really? It's a newly formed collaboration made up of Jean-Louis Husson, Carlos Castrejon and Jack Madi.

And what are they up to? They want to raise some money for Scleroderma Foundation, the San Diego Film Commission and other charities by donating 10 percent of proceeds from art sales.

When and how? The artist will be showing their paintings, mixed-media, photography and charcoal art at JETT Gallery (989 W. Kalmia St.) from Friday, Sept. 2, through the end of the month. Every Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m., they'll hold an opening with wine and whatnot, hoping to convince you to buy a piece of art. There will be a different charity beneficiary every week.
