To-Do List

This week's podcast will tell you where to go and what to do Nov. 10-Nov.17

Shameless self-promotion. A slumber party in an art gallery. Lila Downs.  Gayle Skidmore (the artist behind that pretty image to the left there). This weeks' podcast is packed with fun things to do.

Music editor Peter Holslin says he can't wait to see singer Lila Downs hold a note for two minutes straight. He likes her style, which ranges from jazz standards to ranchera, and he thinks you'll like her, too when she plays the House of Blues at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11.

And if Miss Lila doesn't get you excited, CityBeat's Best Of party will. We've got art. Music. Food from local restaurants. It's all going down at the W Hotel starting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11. Events editor Carissa Casares will be there, which means this thing's gonna be good.

Gayle Skidmore is a singer/songwriter that can play tons of instruments. As if that wasn't enough, she's an artist, too, and if you go to her show at The Ruby Room Saturday, Nov. 13, (which Peter recommends) you'll be able to see both. Her new album comes complete with a coloring book she made herself. How cool is that?

And another songwriter will be traveling up to the California Center for the Arts in Escondido this Friday, Nov. 12, for a little something they're calling Concert & Crash.  It's basically a slumber party with dinner and music by Joel P. West, all within the comfort of one of artist Wes Bruce's famous forts.

Big thanks to Skidmore for the tunes in this week's 'cast. Now push play and have fun out there.
