The To-Do List Podcast

Things to do from Oct. 27 through Nov. 2

By Kinsee Morlan
the_smothering The Smothering by Miss Aniela

Why would you want to push the play button this week? Music editor Peter Holslin recaps the tale behind the formation of San Diego band, Heavy Hawaii. For the full story, read Peter's full feature on the duo by clicking here. Heavy Hawaii will be playing at Til-Two Club (the old Beauty Bar) Thursday, Oct. 28. The band also provided the soundtrack for this week's podcast, so if you liked what you heard, check out their Myspace page for more.

And events editor Carissa Casares is intrigued by United Kingdom-based photographer Miss Aniela. The young photographer got her start on photo-sharing site Flickr. From there, the popularity of her otherworldly self-portraits grew. Listen to the podcast for details or go hear the story from Aniela herself when she gives a talk at the Art of Photography Show at Lyceum Gallery at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28.

If you keep hearing the term "low-fi" but you don't know what the hell it means, our trusty music editor takes you through the recent history of the musical movement. He uses the band Raw Moans as a good example and recommends checking out their show at Tin Can Alehouse Friday, Oct. 29. Read more about the band in this week's feature by Seth Combs.

Carissa ventures into Peter's territory and talks a bit about a Brooklyn band, Sky White Tigers, scheduled to play at a night of music and visuals at Andrews Gallery in Little Italy at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28.

So push play. Push play and send this link to a friend.
