There's no debating that the guys in D/Wolves like to keep busy. In addition to regularly playing shows, members of the four-piece also play in the local bands TV Girl and Dudes. Also, as I reported recently, keyboardist / singer Joel Williams was putting out a solo album a month. (He's since retired the project.)
But all of those distractions haven't held D/Wolves back. In March, the band posted their album Freak of Nature on their Bandcamp for free download. More recently, they recorded seven tracks at Black Box Recording Studios for an upcoming EP, and the track “Tell Me Why” has premiered on the Brooklyn-based blog This Music Doesn’t Suck. They were also recently featured on the e-zine Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
I recently asked Williams some questions about their remarkable productivity and their future plans. Here's what he had to say.
You guys have been getting some good buzz for D/Wolves over the past week or so. How do you feel?
Internet buzz is weird. Obviously it is a good feeling to see people appreciate what it is we're doing. So I'm happy. Hopefully it keeps on buzzing.
When do you expect your new record to come out? What's it called?
We don't have a date set for the record. No name either. We've been playing these songs for about a year now. The first one was written about the same time when we went on tour with Da Bears [who broke up last year; members went on to form TV Girl and Dudes]. Right now we have seven songs finished. We're pretty much trying to decide if we want to put out an EP, or write a couple more songs and market it as an LP.
Do you have any big shows or releases planned?
Honestly I'm not sure. I'm pretty bad at remembering which dates belong to which bands. Definitely nothing planned for a release yet though.
How do you manage your time between playing in D/Wolves and in TV Girl and Dudes?
It isn't too hard. The worst it's gotten was TV Girl had a show the same night D/Wolves opened for Yuck at Casbah. TV Girl played at 11 though, so it was easy for Brian to drive us over to Soda Bar afterwards. I honestly love all the bands I play in, and I'll make time for them. I don't have a job, I'm kind of a lazy piece of shit so I have time to waste playing in friends bands.
