Mark Kersey also weighing District 5 bid

Telecom analyst and past Young Republicans president making inquiries in case DeMaio moves on

By Dave Maass

In this week's issue, we profiled retired San Diego Police detective and current San Diego County Grand Jury Foreman Rick Carlson, who has begun the process of running for City Council in District 5.

As I was researching the race, I started hearing about another potential candidate, Mark Kersey, a telecommunications analyst who runs Kersey Research Strategies.

I shot Kersey a Facebook message, and he confirmed (after our print deadline) that he's weighing it is an option.

"I have been approached about running for City Council District 5 should the seat become vacant in 2012 and am currently in the process of meeting with community leaders to determine the level of potential support for such a run," Kersey writes. "These meetings are going extremely well, and I expect to make a decision within the next few weeks."

Kersey's professional bio is available here, but for his political bio, check out the Union-Tribune's interview with him when he was president of the San Diego Young Republicans in 2008.
