Brew To-Do: Beer events for the week

Get out there and raise some heck/glasses

MEBC-sin-tax A beer for the sinner in all us

I don’t want to alarm any of you, but I’ve been hearing on Fox News that there is a war being waged on Christmas as I write this. If the dire tone in their voices is any indication, the violence and bloodshed could spill into our streets at any moment. I must advise all of you to take shelter immediately, preferably in one of the many beer events that will be occurring during the next few days.

Mother Earth Brew Co. Sin Tax Imperial Stout Release: Sin Tax is the newest addition to the Mother Earth Brew Co. family, but there must be trouble at home because it’s desperate to come home with you. Must be the stress of the holidays.

If you’re anxious to give it a try, I know for certain it will be released for bottle sales at Brothers Provisions today. It will also be featured next Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Barons Market in Point Loma as part of a seasonal tasting event the store does to benefit San Diego Food Bank. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased here.

Hop Odyssey Release Columbus IIPA: If a beer-release sounds good, but you were hoping for something a bit less opaque, Green Flash has you covered with the newest addition to its “Hop Odyssey” series, the Double Columbus IPA. I’ve yet to try it, but I’m going to go out on a professional limb and guess it is going to be hoppy. And you can take that to the bank.

Green Flash will start serving the Columbus-y quaff at 3 p.m. today in its Mira Mesa tasting room.

Freakin’ Friday: When it rains good Green Flash news, it pours. Tonight, O’Briens will feature four beers from the Green Flash “Freak” series—Le Freak (a Belgian IPA), Super Freak (a barrel-aged Le Freak), Little Freak (a barrel-aged Saison) and Black Freak (a barrel-aged Double / Silva Stout with a little extra Belgian funk thrown in for good measure)—starting at 5 p.m.

Sunday Brunch with LOVELIKEBEER: If Friday goes down the way these events are making it possible to do, you’ll mostly use Saturday to recuperate. That should allow you to jump right back into the saddle with “BRÛLÉE," the latest pop-up vegan restaurant effort from LOVELIKEBEER. This pairing menu at Toronado features offerings from Modern Times Beer from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8.
