It’s been a little while since I put together a summary of weekend beer happenings, and I couldn’t have chosen a worse time. Bloody everyone ran off to GABF, leaving me to keep beer culture afloat in their absence. And if that news makes you depressed enough to drink, boy have I ever got you covered:
Sierra Nevada Flipside Red IPA @ O’Briens, Friday, Oct. 11: If you don’t mind a little soccer to pair with your IPA, O’Briens will have the Flipside Red IPA on tap all day.
Stone Brewing Bottle Releases @ Company Store(s), Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12 and 13: Stone Brewing Co. offers lots of different bottles on a rolling basis, but I'm kind of in love with the offerings this weekend. On Saturday, the 2009 Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine will be available (Escondido location only), notable not because Old Guardian is one of my favorites, but because its evolution over four-plus years takes it to interesting places. It's a must-try, if you haven’t. On Sunday, all Stone Brewing locations will have the 2011 Stone BELGO Anise Imperial Russian Stout. The anise made this one of the most divisive beers among my circle of friends when it was released, but I really enjoyed it.
Iron Fist Brewing Third Anniversary Party, Saturday, Oct. 12: All the pre-sale tickets for this party are sold out, but they will be offering $30 tickets at the door for a fortunate few. Normally, I wouldn’t mention an event that's already looking so impacted, but I just want them to know that I care on their special day. I’m a softie like that.
