It's difficult to gauge how viable any of the breweries and brewpubs that are arriving hourly in San Diego will be. I won't be satisfied until beer franchises usurp all the existing Starbucks locations, but I imagine most aren't quite as diehard. However, Plan 9 Alehouse in downtown Escondido seems to have a fighting chance, courtesy of the 177 fans it's acquired before even opening their doors.
That oddly specific number is the count of contributors to Plan 9's successful Kickstarter campaign that was funded in late 2012. It really says something about San Diego beer fans that we're now content to put our money into beer that is still essentially imaginary. Happily, the myriad aspects of putting together a restaurant and brewery have apparently come together, allowing them to convert those visions into reality on Thursday, Sept. 26, during their extraordinarily soft opening.
If you prefer to wait for the more formal and glamorous grand opening, details are sure to arrive on Plan 9's Twitter feed and Facebook page. If not, and you're feeling a smidge thirsty on Thursday, you now have a plan.
