I have to admit that I’m enamored with the name Hop Therapy, the DIPA from Rough Draft Brewing. It’s a fantastic euphemism for simply drinking beer. I’m not trying to obliterate the stresses of the week through mass consumption of beer—I’m engaging in some well-deserved hop therapy!
Luckily, Rough Draft's take on Hop Therapy is a fitting accompaniment to the euphemism. Despite the generally mild citrus aromas, it has potent orange notes in the flavor that finish with more of a citrus-rind bitterness. It’s syrupy and warming in the mouth. I don’t get a ton of hop layering from this, but it’s tuned to my favorite hop flavors, so I can’t really complain.
At 9-percent ABV and 94 IBU, this beer is boozy, full and delicious. I’d prefer a little more nuance out of it, but there’s no question it cures what ails me.
