I have a lot to say about Intergalactic Brewing Company after my first visit there, but, for now, I’d just like to focus on the fact that during one of the hottest weeks of the year, they had beer when I needed it.
Intergalactic Brewing Company, that makes you my new Jesus. Until my next beer on a warm day, anyway.
Though it was hardly the weather for it, I first reached for the Planet Invader Imperial Stout, an 8.5-percent ABV titan among Intergalactic's current offerings. Why such a beefy beer to start? It’s like my old synchronized-swimming coach used to say: “Go big or go big.” The poor guy suffered from some head trauma years back, so it was probably just nonsense, but it was strangely more inspirational by taking “home” off the table.
This stout pours a dark cola brown with an aroma heavy with coffee grounds. The flavor is much lighter than it smells, though, with tart cherry, dark chocolate and a peppery finish. Despite the unusual flavors, its moderately full body helps remind you’re sipping a stout.
The Planet Invader Imperial Stout is different and interesting, which is what I’m always hoping for when I visit a new tasting room. It’s definitely worth a try.
