Seasonal Release of “Breakfast with Wilford” @ Latitude 33 Brewing
I've long been a fan of beer for breakfast, so I’m always happy to share the toils of like-minded folks. This full-bodied coffee stout (featuring coffee from La Costa Coffee Roasters) will soon be available throughout the county, but if you can’t wait, it will be the Latitude 33 tasting room starting Thursday, Aug. 22. Pro-tip: If you pour it into a tumbler and drink it with a straw it’s practically indistinguishable from an iced coffee.
The opening of the BEER-ology exhibit @ Museum of Man
If there is a cooler field of study than beer archaeology, I certainly can’t come up with it. Just think about it: Constant travel to exotic locales, meeting inebriated people of all cultures and being able to dare interns to drink the stuff you find in 3,000-year-old ceramic jugs. Awesome.
If you’d like to explore the world of beer history beyond sorting your glass recycling, the BEER-ology exhibit at the Museum of Man in Balboa Park will open on Saturday, Aug. 24. It will remain open for several months, hosting a bevy of brew events during its run. I’m hoping to check it out and write it up next week, so get there soon before I drop all the spoilers.
Mira Mesa Beer Festival @ Mira Mesa Community Park
If you’d rather do field research on beer than read about it in some stuffy museum, Saturday will likewise usher forth the Mira Mesa Beer Festival. The lineup isn’t quite as sprawling as other festivals, but at $25, it's one of the most economical fests in recent memory—not to mention that the proceeds will be benefit the Mira Mesa Chamber of Commerce, which is really important if you don’t want its members just doing commerce anywhere they see fit. Chambers aren't cheap, people.
