Given that San Diego Beer Week (SDBW) is about two-and-a-half months away, I thought this would be a good time to start teasing it a bit. Sure, that’s still quite a stretch, but we're talking about a 10-day craft brew extravaganza here. If Costco can get away with selling animatronic Santas this far in advance, a little dusting of SDBW news in a beer column seems appropriate enough.
That was the plan, anyway.
The folks at the San Diego Brewers Guild had something with a bit more urgency in mind. They've decided to punctuate the countdown by opening ticket sales for the Guild Festival that opens SDBW. That means in the time you spent reading this, the festival could have already sold out.
Panic, damn you! PANIC!
Details on the festival suds are presently scant, but the tickets reveal that the event itself is getting overhauled into a two-day happening. Friday, Nov. 1, will offer a VIP Brewer Takeover event that features bottomless samples of both grub and beer. The Saturday session will more closely approximate the Guild Festivals of the past, with the standard brewfest accompaniments of food for purchase and drink tickets to budget across the wares of more than 50 breweries. The tickets offered will accommodate whatever combination of passes and VIP access you might be interested in.
