Carnitas celebrates a year, Terra celebrates mushrooms and Craft & Commerce celebrates lunch

Was it just a year ago that we first enjoyed Carnitas Snack Shack's triple-pork sandwich (bacon, pork schnitzel and pulled pork)? Why yes, it was. The pork-centric North Park walk-up (that recently expanded its lovely seating area out back) celebrates one year from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday Dec. 10. They'll be roasting up two pigs and serving up some sides. If you're one of the few people in San Diego who's not familiar with Carnitas, check out Marie Tran-McCaslin's review.

Last Thursday, Terra American Bistro launched its weekly chef's table where, each Thursday, Chef Jeff Rossman and Sous Chef Pablo Ibarra will dream up at least four courses (last week, they did six) based on whatever ingredient inspires them. The cost is $40 per person and the menu will be revealed each Thursday on Terra's Facebook page and via Twitter (@terrasd). Check out last week's menu, inspired by truffles:


Truffle-cured salmon and King Oyster Trumpet "scallops" with pickled 'shrooms

Prawn and porcini raviolis made with shrimp-vegetable broth

New York carpaccio with arugula and truffle vinaigrette

Porcini-dusted escolar with truffled cauliflower purée

Truffle chocolate ice cream and porcini-scented cake with coconut-pecan frosting

Newish Little Italy spot Isola Pizza Bar is adding some holiday-appropriate items to the menu this month: pumpkin and gingerbread gelato, cranberry couscous Salad and butternut-squash pizza with butternut squash puree, fennel sausage, ricotta, insalata, pine nuts and mozzarella cheese 

Craft & Commerce just did a clever revamp of its lunch menu. For overachievers who see lunch as a necessary interruption, opt for the "Commerce" side of the page with quick options like a beet-and-farro salad, grilled yellowtail sandwich and fried chicken sandwich. If lunch is how you reward yourself for a productive morning, opt for the "Craft" side of the menu, which includes braised lamb shoulder and roasted bone marrow. And if lunch is the thing you do before calling it a day, pair your lunch with something from the "Day Drinks," "Working Class Cocktails" or "Punch Bowl Cocktails" sections of the menu.
