You know why people call shopping "retail therapy"? Because when you take those new shoes or that cool jacket out of the bag, it feels so damn good. Your shitty day—hell, even your good day—gets a little better. Adding to that awesome feeling is when your friends fawn over your recent purchases. It just validates the fact that you spent the money you owe AT&T on stuff you don't really need but very much want. Here are some shopping events where you can get more of that feel-good shopping buzz.

Today (Friday), Sophie's Gallery in Point Loma's Liberty Station (2825 Dewey Road) hosts a trunk show featuring custom clothing and accessories by Linda Medina from 5 to 8 p.m. Nibble on hors d'oeuvres and sip on some wine as you shop through Medina's handmade fabric-free goods, which are currently on exhibit at the gallery for No Boundaries, a exhibition on fashion created without fabric. These are one-of-a-kind items that will surely spark a few conversations.

If you picked up this week's paper, I tell you all about the cool stuff you can buy at the San Diego Contemporary Art Fair 2012 in the Urban Scout column. Here's a little snippet:
As part of the art fair's Art Labs—on- or off-site exhibitions that seek to do more than just display art, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego’s bringing back Product Porch, a pop-up store that will sell goods by local and international designers. Located at MCASD's Downtown location (1001 Kettner Blvd.), the shop will feature furniture, artwork, design pieces and accessories.

Saturday will also be a great day for trunk show shopping. North Park's Pigment (3827 30th St.) is definitely a favorite when it comes to finding cool and interesting home decor and goods. Stop in for the F*ck Yeah! Edison MFG Co. trunk show, starting at 6 p.m. Edison MFG Co. is the baby of local artist and skateboarder Dave Mckinney. He creates his leather accessories by hand, cutting, sewing and dying every piece on his own. That includes masculine leather iPhone cases, lighter covers and dog collars. Check out more of his goods here. The trunk show coincides with Ray at Night, so wander the neighborhood for other cool events going on.

If you want to see what clothes look like on hot, skinny models before you decide to buy, Graffiti Beach is teaming up with Fortune 421, a fashion, music and events company based here in San Diego, for a fashion show on Saturday. It's happening at 2220 Fern St., South Park from 6 to 9 p.m. You can shop goods at the store and see swimwear and clothing by Fortune 421 paraded on a runway. Make sure to RSVP here to get complimentary craft beers at the event.

Also on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library in La Jolla (1008 Wall St.) is holding a sale, where you can buy leftover items from their Midnight in Paris fundraising gala: handmade decorations, centerpieces, artwork, rare travel finds and more.
