Eat Drink Local Week, Sessions' food flights and more

Our weekly food-news round-up

By CityBeat Staff
wildwillow The chickens at Wild Willow Farm are stoked.
Edible San Diego's "Eat Drink Local Week" kicked off on Sept. 1, but it's not too late to check out some of the events they have planned. On Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. at LOUNGEsix at Hotel Solamar (435 Sixth Ave., Downtown), Patrick Berrogain's Hot Club Trio will play jazz while you sip San Diego wines accompanied by Chef Christian Graves' locally sourced hors d'oeurves. Tickets are $45 pre-sale, $50 at the door. From 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, it's Beerfest & Foodtrucks at Fixtures Living (9340 Dowdy Drive, Suite 102, in Mira Mesa). Your $45 ticket ($50 at the door) gets you a taste of every beer offered from participating breweries (Manzanita, Societe, Lightening, Hess and Coronado) and a $10 voucher to use at the food truck of your choice. Proceeds raised benefit Wild Willow Farm, Seeds @ City and Olivewood Gardens & Learning Center.

This week, Sessions Public launches "Food Flight!" in which they take grade-school cafeteria classics, make them taste a whole lot better and pair them with beer. The first Food Flight is available Thursday, Sept. 6: three versions of Mac & Cheese: one made with an IPA, jalapenos and cheddar; the second stout and sausage

; the third, saison, blue cheese and bacon. Future trios include house-made chicken strips (Sept. 13), corn dogs (Sept. 20) and meatloaf sliders (Sept. 27). Each flight is $9. An additional $6 gets you four 5-ounce pours of beer.

Green Flash Brewing Co. turns 10 this year; to celebrate, they're holding what they're calling "Treasure Chest Fest" on Saturday, Sept. 8, the name a reference to one of their beers and to the limited, rare and specialty brews you'll be able to get at the fest: Silva Stout Bourbon Barrel Aged Double Stout, Sleepin’ with Shaggy Brandy Barrel Aged Barleywine, Treasure Chest Belgian Blonde Ale, Goddess Coffee Double Stout, Little Freak, Super Freak, Vintage Le Freak and Highway 78 Scotch Ale. The event includes food trucks, classic cars, pin-up girls in swimwear by local designer Fables by Barrie and more. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door and proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure San Diego.
