Photos: Romney-esque zombie candidate debuts anti-DISH campaign

AMC raises the dead for its latest assault on the DISH Network

In the unrelenting, mid-August heat, fans of AMC's The Walking Dead arrived at Horton Plaza outfitted in elaborate zombie makeup. They mingled around a massive, red-white-and-blue tour bus with "A. ZOMBIE FOR PRESIDENT" painted across the side.

An army of privately hired event staff fluttered around in patriotic colors preparing for the arrival of the head honcho, the newest entrant to the U.S. presidential race, A. Zombie. Put on by AMC, the event was a fairly extravagant PR stunt to draw attention to DISH Network's decision to drop the cable station, which airs The Walking Dead (season three premieres Oct. 14). After today's event, the tour bus will continue on to Dallas, the next stop in their six-city "campaign," which will also take them to Charlotte, N.C., and Tampa, Fla., where the Democratic and Republican parties are holding their conventions.

A horde of the living and the dead joined forces to make a stand against the nation's dominant political parties. Promoting presidential hopeful A. Zombie, the newly formed "Zombie Party" will haul the brain-eating candidate across the country.


A. Zombie's campaign is backed by AMC, the channel behind the hit zombie drama, The Walking Dead. AMC's striking back against Dish Network's recent decision to block the channel.


Zombies volunteered their time after joining the cause on Facebook or at this year's Comic-Con. They all did their own costume and makeup.


The Romney-esque zombie candidate, A. Zombie, makes his appearance, emerging from a black Escalade.


A. Zombie cannot speak for himself, because he's a zombie. Luckily, he has a human wife, Patty Morgan-Zombie, who speaks on his behalf.

"You ask if my husband's candidacy is serious? Well I can tell you, he's dead serious!" she said.


After a heartfelt speech promoting zombie rights and the evils of Dish Network, the couple shmoozed with some of their undead supporters.
