You better shop around

Weekend shopping events to fill your closet

There gets a point in every person's life where they look in their closet and think, "I have absolutely nothing to wear." Usually this is not entirely the case. Your clothes weren't wiped out by a natural disaster. You won't be forced to wear a burlap sack to your office happy hour. However, we all get to the point where everything looks and feels stale. First world problems, or what? If you're at the point of wardrobe boredom, here are a few shopping events to check out this weekend.

Frock You Vintage Clothing (4121 Park Blvd., North Park) is having its "Huge Frocking Sale" starting today, Aug. 10, through Sunday, Aug. 12, at 6 p.m. It's a special Burning Man edition, so if you're planning on going to that acid trip in the desert, they've got all the weird get-ups you'll need. There will also be tons of great vintage clothes at bargain prices. DonnaLand and B's Originals will also be on hand, selling goods from their shops. Stop by and buy some cool frocking stuff.

Sometimes your home decor needs some freshening up as well. Doll up your place with cool stuff at Cottage Collectibles, being held in the back parking lot of Vintage Religion (3821 32nd St., North Park). Two estates will be setting up shop, selling antiques, furniture, pottery, vintage costume jewelry and more. Bring cash, as each estate will be handling their own purchases. The sale is going on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 11 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

If you see a big burly bear (as in large gay man, not "Roar! I love picnic baskets!") on the street, you may not always think those are dudes you want to shop from. There's a lot of flannel and distressed denim going on. But we love a good sale, and flannel is super comfortable, so why not hit up the Bears Care Rummage Sale on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the auditorium of the LGBT Community Center (3909 Centre St., Hillcrest). The fellas will have tons for sale, from furniture and clothes to random trinkets. Plus, buying here will help those affected by HIV/AIDS since Bears San Diego will be donating proceeds to Family Health Centers of San Diego, Special Delivery San Diego and The San Diego LGBT Community Center.

For you North County folks, Ducky Waddles' Emporium (414 N. Coast Highway 101) in Encinitas is having their Second Sunday Flea Market from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 12. It will be lots of the usual stuff for sale, like vintage clothes and furniture, artisan jewelry and antiques. If you miss this weekend's market, there will be another one in two weeks.
