Darrell Issa and a San Diego homeless shelter

Our readers' thoughts on Darrell Issa and a homeless shelter

I read your article about Darrell Issa in the July 7 edition [“The Front Lines”]. I’m going to be honest with you: I voted for Obama, but I’ve been extremely disappointed with his performance. I know the criticism was about Issa, but Obama has done a very poor job thus far. There are so many areas he seemed to fail in, like creating more jobs, healthcare reform, border control and, especially, the oil-leak disaster.

While “The big gamble” was an excellent title for your June 30 San Diego Central Library editorial, it could have also been titled “Wall Street by the Sea.” How dare the mayor and six City Council members gamble taxpayer money! Who do they think they are?

Rabbit meat at El Take it Easy and the rest of this week's feedback

The rabbit meat at El Take it Easy is still a hot topic of conversation for CityBeat readers

By Nobody
This is in support of the letter from Betty Gillis criticizing the new restaurant El Take It Easy’s inclusion of rabbit on its menu [“Mmm… minced kitten,” June 16], with the following addition: While Ms. Gillis emphasized companion animals, the ethical norm should apply to all animals and animal products. Most recently, we have heard about the tons of African “bushmeat” (monkeys, chimpanzees, etc.) that has been sold for human consumption in Europe and Asia. The struggle to save whales goes on, while the “harvesting” of millions of tons of fish and seafood results in tons more of dead dolphins, turtles and other sea creatures.
