One last nibble

Irving Berlin and Paul Reubens help usher me out

By Brook Larios
8-10-nibbles-art Alan Light

The late Irving Berlin once said, “The song is ended, but the melody lingers on.” That man was a genius.

I’ve been dishing nibbles of food news to you for a year now and, like most things in life, from restaurants to relationships, this column has run its course for me and, thus, will not flex its muscles in the new version of CityBeat that will be unveiled next week.

Which brings me to a second saying: “A generous heart is good for the right sort of people.”

I am that sort of people. So, I’ll continue to share food news with you, in addition to must-eats; tips; musings; commentary on bigger issues, like food safety and sustainability; and occasional guest posts by local growers, restaurateurs, chefs and other studs via my blog, FoodHuddle.com. And I’d like for you to be a part of it.

As you may or may not know, I write about food for several publications. Unfortunately—or fortunately— turning my attention to these gigs has left my food blog feeling a little like a cheap whore: Fiercely used and quickly abandoned. No longer. As FoodHuddle is resurrected with interesting tidbits, I hope you’ll chime in and, as with Nibbles, send food news my way as you learn of it. You can reply directly to my posts or shoot a note to brook@foodhuddle.com. Meanwhile, in CityBeat, you’ll still get to read wonderful restaurant reviews and beer stuff from my chums, Jenny and Ian.

Well, friends, it’s that time. Print space is limited, but not so in the blogosphere. So, let’s pick up in the nethernets where we left off here. See you at The Huddle.

Oh, before I go, I leave you with a final quote—this from the iconic Paul Reubens (aka Pee-wee Herman):

“The public may think I’m weird. They may think I’m crazy or anything that anyone wants to think about me. That’s all fine. As long as one of the things you’re not thinking about me is that I’m a pedophile. Because that’s not true.”

Nor for me, Paul. Nor for me.
