Beginning June 22, Harney Sushi (3964 Harney St. in Old Town) will offer a special menu of half-priced apps and rolls and $5 drink specials on Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for people who work in the hospitality industry. Think: Albacore Roll, Sunomono Salad (that yummy vinegary veggie medley) and more. harneysushi.com

Currant (140 W. Broadway, Downtown, currantrestaurant.com) used to do a late-night industry happy hour, but it’s now open to all workhorses (9 p.m. to close, 7 days a week). Beer Can Chicken Sliders, anyone? And Flavor Del Mar (1555 Camino Del Mar, 3rd floor, flavordelmar.com) now offers a late-night happy hour from 9 p.m. to close Monday through Wednesday, 10:30 p.m. to close Thursday through Saturday and all day Sunday. Think: Ahi Tostada, Day Boat Scallop Ceviche, Smoked Cheddar Mac ‘n Cheese and more.

The Japan Society of San Diego and Tijuana will host the ninth annual Beer & Sake Festival from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at the San Diego Marriott Del Mar (11966 El Camino Real in Carmel Valley). It’s a nonprofit tasting event that features Japanese-inspired food and libations (100 different drinks and 13 restaurants competing for best appetizer, including The Marine Room, Shim bashi Izakaya, Searsucker, Opera, Top of the Market, Sea Rocket Bistro, Harney Sushi and Harrah’s). Admission is $60. facebook.com/beersake

This time last month, I told you that Scotty Wagner, executive chef and owner of ChileCo, bid buh-bye to Eden (1202 University Ave. in Hillcrest). His second-in-command, Ron Prestage, is now executive chef of the nightclub’s eatery. No more farm-to-table fare, and brunch will be served all day on Sunday. The sign next door still says ChileCo Bistro, but not for long. It’s reverting back to Ciro’s Pizzeria. edensandiego.com

Marine Room chefs Bernard Guillas and Ron Oliver are celebrating quite the culinary achievement. Their cookbook Flying Pans: Two Chefs, One World won the People’s Choice and Chefs and Restaurants awards at the international Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) 2011 Cookbook Awards. marineroom.com
