If you’re lucky, you can find Dr. Hashington at select San Diego parties passing out tasty baked goods that pack a pretty mean pot-punch. We asked him to play an alternative version of Martha Stewart and share some of his secrets:
Green Butter
1 and 1 ⁄4 sticks of butter
1 ⁄ 8 to 1/4 oz. of indica (see main story)
1 cup hot water
Remove twigs and seeds and grind cannabis in a clean coffee grinder. A few pulses will do—it doesn’t have to be powder. Melt butter over low heat in a small saucepan. Add ground herb and water to sauce pan, then mix. Bring to a slight simmer, then cover and simmer for two to three hours over very low heat. The water added will prevent the mixture from burning, but stir every five to 10 minutes to promote even extraction of the THC. Remove from heat and place in the refrigerator long enough to allow the green butter to separate from the water and coagulate on top. Remove green butter and discard water. It should be a dark emerald green.
Double Chocolate Vitamin Bars
1 cup plus two tablespoons flour
1 ⁄2 teaspoon baking soda
1 ⁄2 teaspoon salt
1 ⁄2 cup green butter
1 ⁄4 cup plus two tablespoons sugar
1 ⁄4 cup plus two tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons cocoa powder
1 large egg
1 and 1 ⁄2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
1 ⁄2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine flour, salt and baking soda in a small mixing bowl. In a separate large bowl, beat green butter (see above), sugar, brown sugar, vanilla and cocoa powder until well mixed. Add egg and beat well. Gradually add flour mixture and mix until creamy. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Grease a 9-by-13-inch pan and spread mix into pan to form a thin layer approximately three-quarters of an inch. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes. Cool for 30 minutes. Cut in 2-by-2 inch servings. Serves 30. Eat one so that you will have a reference point to gauge the potency. Every batch will have a different potency depending on the quality of herb used and how well THC is extracted. For best result, eat on an empty stomach.
