San Diego Halloween parties

Get your freak on at one of these Halloween shindigs this weekend

By Kinsee Morlan, Peter Holslin

Rags & Riches Halloween @ Barrio Logan warehouse: Parties at this particular warehouse have been strange, but fun, so Halloween should be no different. Relish the underground vibe while dancing to DJ sets by world-beat spinner David Starfire, Depression-eramusic mash-up masters Hobotech and more. Saturday, Oct. 30. $20. cocina-club.com

Heaven & Hell @ Del Mar Fairgrounds: This Halloween soirée can accommodate up to 10,000 ghosts, goblins and girls dressed in their best Lady Gaga meat-dresses. The mostly electro-house and trance lineup includes Fedde Le Grande, Wolfgang Gartner, Dada Life and others, plus San Diego’s own DJ Cowboy Mike and The Satanic Puppeteer Orchestra. Saturday, Oct. 30. $50. heavenandhellmusicfestival.com

Halloween Ball @ The Prado at Balboa Park The Spanish architecture, gardens and all-around elegant surrounds of The Prado isn’t your typical Halloween-blowout environ, but the cats at DJhere Productions promise to make this ball more of a bash. DJs Scooter & Lavelle, Craig Smoove, Erick Diaz, The Office Twins and others will provide the soundtrack. Sunday, Oct. 31. $50. djhere.com

Zombie Prom @ The Casbah: Sure, this Visual Underground event will have all the fixings of a Halloween jamboree, including spooky movies and art. But the highlight will be a performance by The Lords of the New Removed Church, a tribute to The Lords of the New Church, the ’80s punk-rock super-group that actually looked pretty scary. Friday, Oct. 29. $10-$14. casbahmusic.com

“The Smiths,” “The Velvet Underground,” “The Cramps,” “Warren Zevon” @ Soda Bar: Anybody can dress up like their favorite rock star for Halloween, but it’s another thing when a band not only dresses up but actually plays its favorite rock stars’ songs. Still Ill, The Old In Out, Space Nature and Roxy Jones will do just that. Saturday, Oct. 30. $5. sodabarmusic.com

The quick list: MayStar’s Alice in Wonderland Masquerade Ball and Fashion Show @ Vin de Syrah, Oct. 29; The Halloween Jam @ El Dorado, Oct. 31; Screams and Dreams @ 4th & B, Oct. 30; Halloween Block Party @ House of Blues, Oct. 30; Everything Quentin @ BASIC, Oct. 31; Halloween 2010 @ W Hotel, Oct. 30.
