Joe Arpaio, sheriff of Maricopa County, Ariz., went on Twitter last week to voice his thoughts about “Kill Joe Arpaio,” a new Crocodiles song paying tribute to the notorious lawman. “Msg for the San Diego band ‘Alligators’ who wrote new song called ‘Kill Joe Arpaio’: BITE ME,” he tweeted. In an e-mail to Spin magazine responding to the tweet, Charles Rowell and Brandon Welchez clarified that the song wasn’t a death threat. “In reality, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that his much-deserved heart attack comes soon; the world can always use one less racist,” they wrote.
A song by indie-rock outfit Lights On appears in Fred: The Movie, a tween comedy that premiered Sept. 18 on Nickelodeon.
Frontman Tim Hines says the band was paid a modest $2,500 for use of “Waiting for the Heart to Beat,” an unreleased track that’s one of the first Hines and guitarist Mike Kamoo wrote together. “The music supervisor is really well known and we definitely needed the money,” Hines says in a Facebook message.
Keep an eye out for new projects by the guys from now-defunct indie rockers Da Bears. According to a post by D/Wolves frontman Joel Williams on SDDialedIn.com, singer / guitarist Ryan Solomon is working on the sample-based electro project Nature’s Kid and psychrock project DUDES. Til-Two Club, a new City Heights music venue that has replaced Beauty Bar, is open for business. Holy Rolling Empire, The KABBs and The Howls will play the bar’s first show on Saturday, Oct. 9.
