MYSPACE BANDS OF THE WEEK

Kingfisher and the halcyon(aire)s and Vitro

Like the more acoustic moments of Modest Mouse, the Halcyon(aire)s sound inspired by the spookier parts of the backwoods. The "Kingfisher," who apparently is the ringleader of this guitar-drums-bass-banjo foursome, has the nasally, moonshine voice of someone who's pondered humanity while shucking corn. Put them on a bill with Devendra Banhart or locals The Vision of a Dying World and they could do some great things in San Diego.

This is garage rock done right, with a vocalist whose furry, bear-like voice evokes The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach. Really, you could put "Reverend Dave" in front of any band and it'll sound fantastic. But his garage-blues trio is ready-built for his fiery, ravaged little soul. Put these guys on a bill with The Detroit Cobras and locals Vinyl Radio and let the hand clapping and ass shaking ensue.
