Ignore the archetypical “screwed by the industry” story that undercuts the current mad success of joint-smoking folksoulbrother, Cody ChestnuTT (two upper Ts, like Stonehenge). Yes, his former band, Crosswalk, was poised for a major label album until Hollywood Records dumped ‘em on the edge of its release. But pity the man not: it may have saved his career. Solo, he holed up in his bedroom with a 4-track, a bag of good weed and a bevy of instruments. The result was the ambitiously titled album The Headphone Masterpiece. Ambitious because the indie debut, is a 36-track double-album. Ambitious because ChestnuTT does everything from folk to soul to '70s rock to modern six-string hip-hop. Even with the Benzo-driving bucks the Belly Up is charging for this show, it should smoke the doors off any twenty-act festival circus that would cost you twice as much.
