This Boston ex-pat came to San Diego four years ago in search of a new lifestyle and musical pace after making a mark as a hip-hop cat in Bean Town. He's still got the accent that makes parts into “pahhts” and mark in “mahhk” and the cocky demeanor of an attractive young East-Coaster-turned-beach-dweller.

Thing is, Drow-which you can alternately say backwards or refer to the fictional elfin race from Dungeons & Dragons-sounds nothing like he should. The four tracks on his MySpace page are all swirling guitar hooks and vocal harmonies, some written and produced with the help of San Diegan Loren Perelman (Trisula). Drow has dexterity with beats, and he manufactures a Peter Gabriel-esque orchestration with “Floating in Between.” Although the thump of “Drunk” (featuring South Chicago rapper Big Snatch) could be a G. Love joint, it looks like Drow (real name Christopher Swain) is moving away from hip-hop. “I'm focusing more on making the indie-rock stuff right now because I'm just in the place to be inspired by it,” he says.
