Luther Wright and the Wrongs

By Edwin Decker
According to Luther Wright and the Wrongs, The Wall should have been a country record. Hence their third disc, a re-concept album called Rebuild the Wall, is a bluegrass remake of all 26 songs in their original order. Where Pink Floyd used synths to express existential mirth, Luther uses fiddles, pedal steel, and oh-so-glorious banjo. Where Roger Waters howled lyrics from the black place in his soul, Luther drawls with the melancholy of a bootlegger whose moonshine still was smashed by the feds. The best part though, or so I've been told, is the live show. As Luther's backwoods cousin/wife puts it: “Is all dem yer gee-tars?”
