Halloween party picks

Flaunt your hallowed weenie

By Troy Johnson

For the music lover, here are a few spots to flaunt your hallowed weenie (listed in order of estimated greatness):

The Casbah's 16th Annual Halloween Party

For sonic hipsters. The best alternative bands in town (Pinback, No Knife, Rochelle Rochelle, The Dragons, Ilya, Furious IV, 21st Century Lepers), some outrageous cover projects (Skydiver's Lonely Heart's Club, Fookin' Wankers) and DJs Bart Blackstone and Kenny Lingus. Oct. 31, 8pm, The Westin Horton Plaza, Downtown, $20 (advance)/$25 (door), 619-232-4355.

Halloween at 4th & B

For Goths and rave bats. Ex-Love & Rockets frontman and Encinitas resident David J, along with Steve West and DJ “K” spin '70s and '80s dance tunes. Oct. 31, 9pm, 4th & B, Downtown, $5, 619-231-4343.

Brick by Brick's Hell-oween

For Betty Paige look-alikes and the rockabilly boys who love them. Standout local cowpunk band The ScotchGreens-they've got a fiddle and some foul mouths-headline with the troublemaking Barnyard Ballers, Dragstrip Panther and DJ Curtis open up. Oct. 31, 7pm, Brick by Brick, Bay Park, $10, 619-275-5483.

Monster Bash in the Gaslamp

For “big money bash” party people looking for less alternative fare and a $2,002 cash prize for best costume. Music includes the top cover bands of the region: Rockola, '80s All-Stars, The Disco Pimps and a Go-Gos tribute band. Oct. 31, 5-11pm, Gaslamp Quarter, Downtown, 619-233-5008.
