Currently touring on the Warped Tour, local pop-punk band F.o.N. Recently lent their drummer, 14-year-old Ilan Rubin, to NOFX. Smelly, NOFX's drummer, had to fly out for a memorial service, so he chose seven of his favorite drummers on the tour to each fill in and cover a song or two. Drummers were selected from Lagwagon, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, New Found Glory, Anti-Flag, No Use for a Name, Wanted Dead, and F.o.N. Rubin chose to play “Bottles to the Ground” and “Stickin In My Eye.”
The band is about ready to release its fourth album, Adventures in Boredom, on Sept. 17 on Doc Hollywood Records. It was recorded at Conway Studios in Hollywood with producer Joe Marlett (blink-182, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters).
Rubin has long been touted as the band's main attraction. He learned to play drums as a pre-teen, honing his skills under the tutelage of blink-182's Travis Barker, who describes Rubin's playing as “ridiculous.”
Modern Drummer magazine named Rubin “Best Undiscovered Drummer-18 and Under” in 2001 and the young'un has already lined up full endorsements with Audix Microphones, Paiste Cymbals, O.C.D.P., DW Hardware, Kit Tools Drumsticks and Beato USA.
This summer, you'll hear F.o.N. songs all over MTVs shows, including “The Sausage Factory,” “The Osbournes” and “The Real World – Las Vegas.”
