Chappo: A Trolley Show

Brooklyn band performs 'I Don’t Need the Sun' on the MTS

By Ryan Bradford

Back in 2010, Chappo benefited from Apple using their song “Come Home” for an iPod Touch commercial, and as anyone who’s familiar with the tech behemoth’s advertising strategy, it takes a certain kind of musical whimsy and energy to make that cut.

Judging from their A Trolley Show performance of “I Don’t Need the Sun,” it’s a little difficult to imagine this band’s music being used to peddle those omniscient doodads. Not that that’s a bad thing—in fact, the relative sparsity of the song evokes a floaty gem like “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head.” Perhaps it’s not same the energy that Apple demands, but as far as summer jams go, it’s pretty damn good.
