Seattle's Pretty Girls Make Graves sure know how to rack up the indie rock brownie points. For starters, their verbose moniker is synonymous with a song by Brit-pop heroes, the Smiths. Secondly, their bassist, Derek Fudesco, hails from the now-defunct (and sorely missed) thrash rockers, Murder City Devils. Andrea Zollo, their singer, has received comparisons to '70s punk rockers Poly Styrene and Penelope Houston. Add to that a sound that recalls such influential San Diego groups as Drive Like Jehu and Clikitat Ikatowi, and it's no wonder why their latest album, Good Health, was met with sparkling critical praise. It's only a matter of time before their driving noise rouses all of the jaded-eyed, shaggy-headed hipsters from their Quaalude-induced stupors, and PGMG becomes the next “it” band like the aforementioned Devils.
