When all you want to do is dance

This is where your booty should be

By Justin Roberts

DJ Josh the Funky 1 drops in at THIN (852 Fifth Ave.) on Thursday, Dec. 6, to bring downtown San Diego a blistering set of “funky-house” and electronic beats fresh from Chicago. Local DJs Xcite and J-Sin will spin the opening sets. That same night, electro-house DJ Ewan Pearson is at Red Circle (420 E St.). With remixes for The Chemical Brothers, Goldfrapp, The Rapture and Pet Shop Boys (among others) under his belt, the U.K.-based Pearson is considered by many to be the father of the electro-house movement that began in the late ’90s. Hosted by MayStar, the event will feature a fashion show from Future of Style. San Diego’s own Saul Q and $uperfox will kick off the festivities.

On Saturday, Dec. 8, two of the kids behind Booty Bassment—Ikah Love and Dimitri Dickinson—bring their latest project, Shake Appeal, to the Beauty Bar (4746 El Cajon Blvd). Expect booming bass and shaking asses until the wee hours of the morning. Also on Saturday (and south of the border), Tony Tee and Naza Space Club present “Posada,” a “holiday dance spectacular” featuring Hollywood house DJs Gina Turner and Louisah along with locals Loud Noises and Don Carlitos at Antiguo Lobby Bujazan (Ave. Constitución, between Calle 6 and 7, Zona Centro, Tijuana). San Francisco DJ Miss Toats from BigStereo.net will also be there.

Finally, next Friday, Dec. 14, MayStar’s monthly electro/indie/’80s dance night and fashion-show extravaganza, Fashion Whore, celebrates its two-year anniversary at The Brass Rail (3796 Fifth Ave.) in Hillcrest. Fashion Whore resident DJs Nate Soixante and Edgartronic will spin, and local electronic rockers Qu’est-ce Que C’est will play a live set. The fashion show will feature designs by Waffo, Hitch Couture, Babycakes, DIY, Evey Clothing and Miss Alphabet. This month’s Fashion Whore theme is “circus freaks,” so watch out for bearded ladies and sword-swallowing dance machines.
