Mixed party nuts

Let our Hit List guide your nighttime activities

By Alex Zaragoza
hitlist The “Harlem Shake.”

In this space, I like to have an overarching theme so that anyone who's into one of the events has two other options that may also pique their interest. It's like Pandora. But as with Pandora, random things sometimes happen here. Once, Matchbox Twenty came blasting out of my Blur station. There's no reason for those bands to be paired, and there's no reason the three following events should be in the same space. But here they are. Skip to the next event until you find something you like.

Graffiti art crossed over to the mainstream long ago. Those who haven't given up on it should check out The World of Caleb Aero: An Exploration of Aerosol Art at Ivy Nightclub at the Andaz Hotel (600 F St., Downtown) on Thursday, Feb. 28. Caleb Aero will exhibit work and create live art while DJs spin club tunes. RSVP to andazsandiego@prchemistry.com for free entry and access to a hosted bar.

From an evening of art, we go to Internet memes. U-31 (3112 University Ave. in North Park) is creating a Harlem Shake video. "Harlem Shake" is a completely ridiculous club banger that has an equally ridiculous dance that goes with it. Here's how you do it: Step 1: Keep your arms straight down and swing them rigidly back and forth as you hump the air. Step 2: When the beat drops, shake your arms and torso like an idiot. That's it. Wear a crazy costume on Saturday, March 2, and bring your shakiest dance moves.

Still not finding a party you like? How about a movie marathon that exploits Irish stereotypes? Head to The Ruby Room (1271 University Ave. in Hillcrest) for an Irishsploitation Movie Marathon on Tuesday, March 5. Ten movies about killer Irishmen will be screened throughout the night, including The Departed and Boondock Saints. The free popcorn won't soak up all the bloodshed, but it will help soak up any whisky you consumed.
