Correction
Our Dec. 19 editorial included a recommendation that readers contribute to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and suggested that doing so would amount to a tax deduction. That's not correct. The Brady Campaign website clearly states that because the organization lobbies directly on policy issues, donations are not tax-deductible. We're sorry for the error.
‘Comedic genius’
The Dec. 5 issue of CityBeat contained a couple of letters commenting on the previous week's letter from Craig Thompson. As you are aware, Mr. Thompson's letter was just the latest in a string of hilarious letters he has submitted over the past few years, and I just wanted to thank you profusely for continuing to publish his work.
His writing is so hyperbolic that I'm convinced he must be some sort of ironic hipster liberal who writes them in order to bring attention to the grotesque hatefulness and abject mean-spirited nature of so many on the right. His brilliant satires of the "conservative mind" (which is, of course, his comic ruse) are always good for a laugh.
Thanks again for providing this great comedic genius with a forum. Perhaps he should be working for The Onion.

Get the stadium done
Great endorsement of Todd Gloria, the right choice for sure ["Editorial," Dec. 5].
You said in the editorial that including a football stadium in an infrastructure bond measure is a deal-breaker for CityBeat. Have you seen what stadiums do in other cities? Only somone naïve or ignorant of the facts would not support a new stadium, no matter how it was financed.
San Diego needs to move into the 21st century. The projected revenues from NCAA football playoffs, Super Bowls, concert events, bowl games and more bring billions to the San Diego economy. The site by Petco Park is perfect.
Qualcomm Stadium is completely obsolete. Let's get it moving now! Somebody needs to wake up. The stadium is way overdue!

An ‘accidental judge’
Regarding your coverage of Gary Kreep ["News," Nov. 14 and Dec. 19]: In my opinion, there should be court watchers in attendance whenever accidental Judge Kreep is on the bench. He needs to have all of his judicial actions observed and reported. Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.

No optimism on guns
Your Dec. 19 editorial mentions that commentators have said that the Newtown shooting will finally prompt action. I'd like to be optimistic, but in a country dominated by infotainment, it's likely that people will just move on.
And don't expect much from our leaders; most of them place selfish interests above principles and are therefore easily divided and conquered by special interests that use deep pockets or squeaky-wheel tactics to hold sway.
Add to the mix the hindrance of critical thinking due to wedge issues—for example, Mike Huckabee saying, in essence, that the shooting should have come as no surprise when we have a culture without God where Christian-owned businesses are told to provide tax-funded abortion pills. Using that kind of logic—or lack of—one could say that the shooting wouldn't have happened if the shooter had been aborted. But a more practical solution might have been medical marijuana; it probably would have chilled the shooter's crazy ass out.
