When Friday night rolls around, the first thing we ask ourselves is usually something along the lines of Where da party at? That’s an important one. But after that, the question on every partier’s lips, regardless of age or gender, is, What am I going to wear? We want to look good, and we don’t mind if it takes two hours so long as it garners a “Damn, you look hot!” from some drunkie.
Spin Nightclub (2028 Hancock St.) is making things a tad easier with its Swagger 101: Sweaters & Stilettos party on Friday, Sept. 14, as part of the Fix Your Face Friday series. Alcohol usually works for fixing faces. The (strict) dress code calls for preppy sweaters and heels, so high your boyfriend will hate you by midnight because you keep complaining. DJs Dale the Dred, Circle K and Eflex will spin club tunes. Make Carlton Banks proud.
Also on Friday, take one small step for party-kind as El Dorado Cocktail Lounge (1030 Broadway, Downtown) hosts Neil Armstrong, presented by The Melting Pot. No, it’s not the national hero of space travel who died on Aug. 25; it’s the DJ who’s been touring with the likes of Jay-Z. He’ll spin hip-hop, reggae and R&B, along with DJs Felt1 and kidRIZ, setting a nice groove to the evening. Unlike Spin, this joint has no dress code. But that doesn’t make it OK to wear your sweatpants. Have a little self-respect.
If you feel like shaking and/or breaking it with an oldie but goodie, head over to U-31 Cocktail Lounge (3112 University Ave., North Park) for Party Rock Saturdays. Grind up against a willing stranger to remixes, dance and electro courtesy of some of San Diego’s favorite DJs. Even though there’s no dress code, it doesn’t hurt to look good. It never does.
