Singer-songwriter Kelsea Rae Little is recovering steadily after getting hit by a car two weeks ago.
Little tells CityBeat she was at the corner of Palm Street and La Mesa Boulevard in La Mesa on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 28, when a car took a left turn and hit her as she was crossing the street. The car swooped her up by the knees, and her head cracked the driver’s windshield.
Thankfully, her harp-playing hands and arms weren’t injured.
“That’s the first thing I thought of when I went down,” she says in a Facebook message. “My fingers, are they broken?!” She suffered a concussion and needs physical therapy to help fix her knees. But she clearly has her bearings; she recently won $200 playing blackjack at Viejas Casino, she says.
While Little’s kept physical activity to a minimum, she’s been active with music. She’ll play at Lestat’s on Wednesday, Sept. 12, Tin Can Ale House on Friday, Sept. 28, and the Adams Avenue Street Fair on Saturday, Sept. 29.
After five years at U-31, the hip-hop club night Generations Party is moving permanently to Onyx Room (852 Fifth Ave., Downtown) this week. Organizer DJ Artistic says a bigger venue is needed to accommodate growing attendance and that Onyx has premium sound and lighting. The party will continue to happen every Thursday night, with resident DJs Artistic, Cros1 and Felt1 playing a mix of hip-hop and dance pop. The dress code also won’t change: No hats, baggy clothes or sports attire allowed.
Celebrated jazz trumpeter Christian Scott will play at a benefit for Jazz 88.3-FM at Anthology on Wednesday, Sept. 12—$10 of each ticket sold will go to the station.
