San Diego’s breweries, beer bars and bottle shops are becoming almost as big an attraction as SeaWorld or the San Diego Zoo. OK, maybe that’s a stretch, but this week’s lineup of beer-juiced events is proof that the craft-beer thing isn’t just a passing trend:
St. Feuillien and Green Flash Brewing Co. Collaboration @ O’Brien’s Pub (4646 Convoy St., Kearny Mesa): There’s a beer in the works between one of San Diego’s most well-known breweries, Green Flash, and Belgian brewer St. Feuillien. No word yet on exactly what they have planned, but you can taste both brewery’s beers at this event. At 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 28.
Butcher’s Brewing Tasting Room Takeover @ Bottlecraft (2161 India St.): From 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 29, the Little Italy bottle shop hosts the Carlsbad brewery that was started, in part, by Rey Knight, the bad-ass butcher behind the former Knight Salumi Company. Butcher’s Brewing will take over the tasting room and release its first batch of Free Range IPA. bottlecraftbeer.com
PubCakes @ The Foundry (2859 University Ave., North Park): From 8 to 11 p.m. Thursday, March 29, the local cupcake shop that makes delectable desserts by using beer as a main ingredient is hosting a pairing event. Taste the cupcake, then sip the beer that inspired it. Ballast Point’s Black Marlin will be paired with the Malted Marlin cupcake, Mission Brewery’s Amber Ale goes with Honey Nut Beerios—you get the picture. $5 for one pairing, $18 for all four. pubcakes.com
Mission Valley Craft Beer and Food Festival @ Handlery Hotel & Resort (950 Hotel Circle N.): Mission Brewery, The Beer Company, Ballast Point Brewing, Stone Brewing Co. and plenty of other breweries will be onhand, ready to fill you up with unlimited tastings. Local chefs like Hanis Cavin of Carnitas Snack Shack, Jeff Rossman of Terra and Tommy Fraioli of Sea Rocket Bistro will be there with food samples, too. The festival runs from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 1, and the after-party starts at 8 p.m. at the bar inside the hotel. $40-$45. ticketderby.com
