You know you’ve officially made it when you come up with a new musical genre and it sticks. Moombahton is a sub-genre of electro dance music that the DJ / producer duo Dave Nada and Matt Nordstrom— known as Nadastrom—say they came up with “on the fly at a basement party by slowing Dutch house music down to the tempo of reggaeton,” according to their Facebook page. NPR, Spin, BBC Radio and others have covered the trend, and, locally, there’s even a monthly night called Bajaton that features DJs spinning moombahton mixes (the next one is Feb. 1 at El Dorado Cocktail Lounge). Get your moombahton on at 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at The Loft at UCSD with local electronic-music project Colour Vision and Michael's Volpato performing alongside Nadastrom. $12.

Here are a few more ways to cut loose this week:

Caro Limón is a danceable Mexican DJ, too. She's performed alongside big names like Steve Aoki and MSTRKRFT. The music starts at 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12. $15-$20.

SoutheFried Vegan @ Hess Brewery (7955 Silverton Ave. in Miramar): From 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, the dedicated deep-frying crew behind SoutheFried Vegan will be serving up sandwiches and two sides for $10 and Hess will be pouring pints of their craft brew.

Humpnight @ U-31 (3112 University Ave., North Park): Every third Wednesday of the month, promoter Jimmy SanDiego and his friends take over U-31. At 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, DJs Gabe Vega, Ayla Simone, Blancnoire and FutureWeapon will spin.
