When all you want to do is dance

When all you want to do is dance

We care about clubs

Kava Lounge (2812 Kettner Blvd.), one of San Diego’s greatest dance spots, will celebrate its third anniversary on Thursday, Dec. 20, with a birthday party featuring electro-hop DJ Egyptian Lover and local DJs The Silvas—Mateo and No Battles—and 3 Tha Hard Way’s Eddie Turbo from RE:UP magazine.

Also on Dec. 20 Toronto’s Deadmau5 is at Red Circle (420 E St., Gaslamp). At  27, the prolific electronic-music producer has been in the dance scene for only a couple of years but is already hailed as a phenom. Two of Club Love’s favorite local DJs—Barry Weaver and Alain de Saracho—will open.

On Friday, Dec. 28, MayStar’s “Pop Noir” is going off once again at Static Lounge (634 Broadway, Downtown) with resident indie-electro DJs Edgartronic and Groundfloor. The fashion show this time around will feature the latest duds from Chocolate Cherries, Future of Style and Sugar Couture.

The dawn of 2008 is almost upon us, which means we have boatloads of New Year’s Eve parties to choose from. Below are Club Love’s top-five picks:

1. Starlite Lounge (3175 India St.) will host a party with One Nation/Jivewire DJs Bart Blackstone and T-Money, with an early set by DJ Ratty. Plan ahead if you want to go, though, because all guests must RSVP.

2. North Park hipster dive Live Wire (2103 El Cajon Blvd.) will ring in the new year with local DJs Nathan Black (The New Black) and Heresy (Diamond Dogs) at the decks. As is always, there’s no cover charge, so you can save your cash for an extra Pabst tall boy at the end of the night.

3. New Year’s Eve wouldn’t be New Year’s Eve without a wild party at Beauty Bar (4746 El Cajon Blvd.). This year, MayStar will throw Beauty Bar’s “80s/indie/electro/dance/dance/dance” bash with DJs Edgartronic and Groundfloor. Your $20 cover gets you two whopping hours of open-bar action and a free hangover the next morning.

4. Powerhouse party producers Kimika will spend their night at Tia Juana Tilly’s (Calle 7 and Ave. Revolución). France’s techno/hip-hop DJ Yuksek will headline, and local electro-heads Don Carlitos, Loud Noises and Sleazy V will spin the opening sets.

5. Your final option—and probably the most entertaining of the bunch—is to ring in the new year with “ugly” people. The “Get Ugly” DJs—Dr. Indulgent and Alex Villalobos—will spin at Kava Lounge with Mark E. Quark. Machine-funk beats, sexy DJs and a dance floor packed with naughty girls and boys—my kind of party!
