When all you want to do is dance
Let us tell you where to go
Little Italy’s Airport Lounge (2400 India St.) recently launched an all-female DJ night called Lady Lush that takes place every Thursday. While I’ve yet to check it out, I’ve heard it’s amazing. This Thursday, Lady Lush welcomes local DJs Skutech and Ele for a night that runs the gamut of dance music, including house, breaks, downtempo, drum ’n’ bass, dancehall and hip-hop.
Beauty Bar (4746 El Cajon Blvd.) welcomes Terrence from indie-electro band Young Love for a live DJ set on Saturday, Nov. 17. Watch out for a swarm of faux hawks, ironic tees and white leather belts—this event is undoubtedly at the top of every young hipster’s “to do” list.
Wednesday, Nov. 21, brings Toronto duo MSTRKRFT and their jagged, grindy beats à la Ed Banger, and the thrash-house sounds of Miami’s Lazaro Casanova to 4th & B (345 B St.). MSTRKRFT’s Jesse F. Keeler (of Death From Above 1979 fame) and Al-P have been making music together for only two years, but in that short time they’ve managed to crank out an impressive list of remixes, including tracks by the Gossip, Metric, Justice and New Young Pony Club. Local bands Buddy Akai and Shark Attack will open, along with local DJ Kid Lightning. I foresee heaps of sweaty bodies and hundreds of dilated pupils—sounds like fun to me.
Also on Nov. 21 is a “rock out with your cock out” birthday party for the Beauty Bar’s illustrious manager, Erica. While I won’t mention just how momentous this particular birthday will be, I can tell you that Beauty Bar is going to rock that night. Erica’s invited Los Angeles rock bands The Binges and The Vacation, along with local burlesque troupe Sultry Savage, as well as our own Gabe Vega and Saul Q, who will provide the bootie-bouncing beats at the beginning of the night. Happy, happy birthday, Erica!
On Friday, Nov. 23—the day after you’ve stuffed yourself with tofurkey and mashed potatoes—work off the extra calories at Kava Lounge (2812 Kettner Blvd.), when 3 Tha Hardway presents Dub Traffik Control Soundsystem, featuring “Club Love” favorites El Poeta and Eddie Turbo, along with Prince Zohar of Habitat Sound System, for a night of “rub-a-dub rarities, future reggae disco mixes and versions galore”—I couldn’t have said it any better.
