On Saturday, Nov. 3, Kadan's monthly BrokenBeat night (4696 30th St., Normal Heights) features the electro-pop, hip-hop and psychedelic funk sounds of Mad Happy. Two members of the BrokenBeat crew-Jabba Brakes, who steps up to the mic with his trusty laptop in tow, and DJ Kwala, the girl whose eclectic collection of vinyl will keep the party going into the wee hours-perform with Florida's Mad Happy duo.
Also on Saturday, check out the electro-punk, girl-versus-girl naughtiness of L.A.'s Electrocute at Beauty Bar (4746 El Cajon Blvd., City Heights). As protégés of Peaches, the potty-mouthed queen of electroclash, the Electrocute girls have one mission when taking the stage: Tear some shit up. Before that happens, though, shake your booty to the beats of DJ Sleazy V and the Loudnoises boys, Wero & Monchis.
After selling out a show at the Kava Lounge earlier this year, San Francisco break-beat DJ Bassnectar comes to Brick by Brick on Saturday, Nov. 10 (1130 Buenos Ave., Bay Park), to spill his wet, low-octave bass on the dance floor. The same night, Brick by Brick also hosts 3 Tha Hardway's Eddie Turbo and Jon Wesley.
Happy birthday to "The Octopus." Tijuana's Tentáculo Bar (Plaza Pueblo Amigo) will celebrate its first anniversary with an all-night banger on Nov. 10. Included in the long list of guests for the evening are Datakin and Embryo, who will provide the psychedelic beats, plus Bex, DJ Ground, Noisemaker and DJ Coby throwing down the electro-house.
